What special accommodations are available?
Polling places in Alabama contain equipment to accommodate voters with disabilities so that they can vote without help. Each county is equipped with a minimum of one accessible voting machine.
Permanently disabled voters who cannot make it to the polls because of their disability can apply for a disabled voter absentee ballot. If approved, the voter is automatically mailed a disabled voter absentee ballot. In order to be approved for continuous absentee voting, voters must have their application notarized by their primary healthcare physician to certify their status as permanently disabled. After the approval of their application, voters will receive ballots for every local, state, and federal election after each time that they renew their status as an absentee voter through the same application process for each voting cycle.
Absentee voting begins 55 days before election day when accessible voting machines will be available for use.
