Hawaii

Am I eligible to vote in Hawaii?

In Hawaii, you are eligible to vote if you are a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, registered to vote, and a resident of the State of Hawaii.

Hawaii allows 16- and 17-year-old citizens to pre-register to vote. When you turn 18, you will automatically be registered to vote. If you would like to pre-register to vote, see below Voter Registration.

When is Hawaii's voter registration deadline?

You must register to vote no later than 30 days before the election. See the State of Hawaii Office of Elections for voter registration deadlines.

How do I request an absentee ballot in Hawaii?

Hawaii now provides all voters with the option to vote by mail-in ballot. If you are a military member or are living overseas, use the FVAP website to request an absentee ballot.

What special accommodations are available?

Hawaii strives to ensure that all voters have the ability to vote, regardless of permanent or temporary disabilities. Voters can receive assistance with voter registration, voting by mail, and voting in person. Assistance can include filling out and mailing in a voter registration form. A voter can receive assistance at the Voter Services Center/polling place but may not see the voters' ballot, may not mark the person's ballot for them (unless authorized), or vote in another person's name.

Voter service centers are equipped with direct-recording electronic voting machines that ensure privacy and provide accessibility for people with a variety of disabilities.
